Visit Help Your Keiki, to get started if your child is experiencing emotional or behavioral difficulties

Parents and caregivers often don’t know where to start when their child is experiencing major emotional or behavioral difficulties. Difficulties can include inability to concentrate, extreme anxiety about a variety of events, exposure to a traumatic event, depressed mood, trouble developing relationships, or many others issues.

The Help Your Keiki webpage (helpyourkeiki.com) is a website for parents, by parents in collaboration with the State of Hawaii’s Evidence Based Services (EBS) Committee. Since 1999, the Evidence‐Based Services (EBS) Committee has been promoting best practices to serve children and adolescents with mental health needs. With that goal in mind, the EBS committee developed this website. Parents and caregivers can use this website at every stage of addressing their child’s difficulties

1Parents and caregivers can use this site to help them understand if their child may have characteristics of a mental health disorder. Please see the “Common Issues” section for this information.

2 Parents can use this site to learn about what they can do to get their child the best help available. Please see the “What Works” section for this information.

3 If parents have already started working with a therapist, they can use the information on this website to guide the questions that they ask their therapist. Please see the list of “Questions” for more information.

4 Finally, if parents would like more information about additional resources they can utilize, we are consistently updating information on our “Resources” page.
