ABA Therapy for Hawaii’s Children with Autism

Hawaii Behavioral Health (HIBH) - Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Therapy for Hawaii's children with autism - the highly-anticipated autism health coverage under Luke’s Law

The highly-anticipated autism health coverage under Luke’s Law began January 1, 2016.

Luke’s Law requires health insurance plans to cover the diagnosis and treatment of autism for children ages 13 and under.

Hawaii’s children with autism now have access to treatments shown to be their best opportunity to improve their lives. Through Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) and other evidence-based therapies, these treatments focus on positive reinforcement, teaching in small steps, prompting, and repeated practice.

To ensure children and their families receive the highest quality of care available, Hawaii Behavioral Health (HBH) has opened a new clinic to serve those who need this care. Parents can feel confident in choosing HBH as we have the largest concentration of autism experts in the state and have successfully served Hawaii’s families for more than 20 years.

We take pride in our ability to assess each child’s and family’s needs and pair them with a treatment team that best fits their goals and requirements. The HBH Clinic is open seven days a week, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., to accommodate busy family schedules.

Our Clinic also provides a broad range of other treatment services for children, adults, and families suffering from emotional distress and/or mental health concerns.

**Access to services depends on the date a health plan is issued or renewed. QUEST members qualify for additional services. Check with your insurer for details specific to your policy.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is tangible, measurable and concrete. Backed by over 40 years of research, the US Surgeon General has designated ABA as the most effective treatment for individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

  • ABA addresses behaviors by using assessments to analyze the frequency, establishing trends, determining functions and implementing plans to address the targeted behavior.
  • The goal of ABA is to increase, decrease, or modify or extinguish a behavior to improve the quality of life for individuals and their families.
